February 4 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Dr. Gerardo Martí, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Sociology at Davidson College, will join the Indiana University Indianapolis community to explore the intersection of race, religion, and political power in shaping social change in the United States.

His guest lecture, titled “American Blindspot: Presidential Politics, Free-Market Capitalism, and State Enforcement of Religious Priorities,” focuses on how white evangelicals are utilizing the State to enforce religiously motivated political agendas and highlights the flurry of related events in the early days of the 47th presidency.

The event will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 1 p.m., on IU Indy’s campus in Taylor Hall, UC 104 (815 W Michigan St, Indianapolis, IN).

This featured lecture is co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture, Lake Institute on Faith & Giving, Indiana University Indianapolis Honors College, and the Indiana University Indianapolis Department of Religious Studies.
