THE ABUSE CRISIS IN MODERN CHRISTIANITY
By the end of the course, students should be capable of a) understanding and analyzing the scope and
scale of sexual abuse within U.S. Christianity; b) measuring the impact of clergy abuse upon church and society; c)
identifying concrete resources for researching and addressing sexual abuse; and d) understanding some professional
opportunities available to those wishing to address abuse in church and society. Grades will measure the effectiveness
of textual interpretations and critical thinking as well as your ability to place specific religious developments within
broader social, intellectual, and political contexts.
