Social Movements and Religion in American History

Many social movements in American history have emerged from religious groups and religious ideals. Some movements sought to inspire a new wave of religiosity while others used religious principles to motivate broader social change. This learning module examines the history of movements in the United States by using religion as a lens.

The ARDA Lesson Plans integrate content from the ARDA and other sources into teachable units. The lessons are designed for courses in a wide range of disciplines, including history, political science, psychology, religious studies, and sociology. This assignment was created for the Association of Religion Data Archives.
